The City of Norman’s Emergency Management Division and other local preparedness partners will be at Sooner Mall to promote National Preparedness Month on Friday, September 23 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

During the preparedness event, attendees will have the opportunity to speak with local emergency responders and community service organizations that will provide information and resources on how to ensure you and your family are prepared to handle a disaster and know what to do after one occurs. The event will highlight the importance of creating a readiness plan for not only natural disasters but also public health or safety threats.

“Personal preparedness is the key to being ready for the next emergency,” said David Grizzle, City of Norman’s emergency management coordinator. “We use opportunities such as this event to meet with the public and discuss their questions and concerns about preparedness.”

Emergency management volunteers will be on hand to answer questions and assist residents with preparedness tasks like programming their weather radios. Applications to volunteer with Norman Emergency Management will also be available at the event. For more information on volunteering, contact David Grizzle at 405-292-9780.
