The Norman Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire inside the boy’s locker room of the Little Axe Field House, 2000 168th Avenue NE, just after 8 p.m. on Monday. Upon arrival, firefighters found the locker room to be involved in a large fire and filled with smoke. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire keeping it to the room of origin. However, the fire and smoke caused extensive damage to the lockers and ceiling inside the facility. The estimated cost of damages, including football equipment kept in locker room, is $50,000.

The fire alarm system in the facility was activated and worked properly to notify personnel still onsite of the fire. Fire officials noted that a working fire alarm system and early notification were key factors in holding damages to a minimum.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No injuries were reported.

The Little Axe Volunteer Fire Department and EMSSTAT also responded to the fire.
